On behalf of the California Public Utilities
Commission (CPUC), the University of California (through the California
Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE)) is seeking a qualified
individual to serve in a research project and program management
capacity. CIEE will be initiating a series of interrelated projects that
quantify the relationship between water consumption and consequential
energy use (now know as ‘embedded energy in water’). CIEE seeks a
contractor who will manage these individual projects and will provide
guidance to ensure that the portfolio fulfills CPUC’s programmatic
goals.

The CPUC and UC-CIEE are seeking proposals from qualified experts
to study the energy intensity of different aspects of water consumption.
three studies are anticipated:
- The Statewide and Regional Water-Energy Relationship Study,
- The Water Agency and Function Component Study and Embedded
Energy-Water Load Profiles, and
- The End-Use Water Demand Profile Study.
The information developed in these studies should provide a better
understanding of how energy is used in the California water industry.
Furthermore, the results from these studies will be used by the CPUC in
help determining whether future embedded energy in water programs should
be added to the CPUC’s energy efficiency portfolio.
